A researcher is evaluating the effectiveness of a clinical pathway to improve outcomes for home care patients returning home after hip replacement surgery. Four home care agencies are participating in the study. In each agency, 50% of the patients with hip replacements receive care according to the regular agency policy, while the other 50% receive care according to clinical pathway. For all participating patients, agencies send de-identified patient data on functional status measured on admission and again at discharge to the researcher.
